Mother appeals for help for her daughter’s dialysis treatment
The mother of a dialysis patient is calling on the public for any assistance they can give in helping her daughter pay for treatment.
Biabou resident, Luenda Decaul visited SEARCHLIGHT this week to amplify the plight of her daughter, Lavourn Glasgow, whose kidneys began failing last September.
Decaul said since then, her 46-year-old daughter has been receiving treatments in the form of injections, which cost EC$65. However, about three weeks ago, Glasgow started receiving dialysis, which costs EC$250 per session.

She receives dialysis at the Modern Medical and Diagnostic Centre in Georgetown.
“Her kidney gone. She on dialysis and she need urgent help. I’m pleading, I’m begging, of anybody out there can donate, give me a little thing to go towards her dialysis,” the mother said.
“She was on the injection first and the injection doing nothing for her, so … Mrs [Dr R Twana Browne-] Caesar put she on dialysis. So week before last Tuesday is the first time she had the dialysis, so she went, she take it three times first week, last week, two times and this week, two times, so she have to go back on Thursday (yesterday).”
Decaul said her daughter does not work and the situation is stressful on her.
She added that they have received assistance from the Ministry of National Mobilization and the General Employees Cooperative Credit Union (GECCU) but they are still in need of assistance.
“Me have to try because ah my child. Any mother would do that. It’s my first girl and she look everything like me,” Decaul told SEARCHLIGHT.
She said she cries when she realises she cannot help financially, but doesn’t want her daughter to see.
Decaul also said that they are hoping to host a barbecue next week to raise funds. But anyone interested in making a donation may do so by depositing contributions to an account at GECCU — 958248 or under the name Lavourn Loraine Glasgow.
