Summer Crash academy set to take off next month

The fourth edition of the Summer Crash academy is set to take off next month.

Jolene Lewis, co-ordinator of the two week programme said that she, as well as the children who are expected to participate in a series of fun and exciting events, look forward to the programme, which is being held under the theme “Continuous Advancement through Redial Training”.{{more}}

“This year is going to be an extraordinary experience for the kids.

“Unlike previous years, we have incorporated an element of sports which includes football, cricket and lawn tennis for the children. Additionally, there would be hiking expeditions and several impromptu visits from local entertainers. It gives them the opportunity to interact with a diverse set of children from varying communities.”

Lewis, a teacher by profession, explained that the summer break often results in a lag in the children’s learning upon return to the classroom.

She said children easily lose a couple months worth of math skills during the long summer vacation, and this concern is one of the issues addressed by the competent and dedicated Summer Crash team.

“Summer Crash Academy kids’ workshop has significantly enhanced learning for those who have participated. It provides lectures in basic computing and emphasises general safety rules when browsing the Internet,” Lewis also said.

“It also focuses on core subject areas such as mathematics and reading. Since the programme’s start, it has grown tremendously over the years. Children excitedly look forward to this fun-filled, learning experience.

The Summer Crash programme takes place from August 11 to 22 and will be held at the Troumaca Ontario Secondary School, and caters for children 7 to 12 years old.

Lewis said that the programme is made possible by generous contributions from the corporate community of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
