Rivals fail to show for meet with Commissioner of Police
Buoyed by his success in bringing members of two rivaling factions together the previous week, Commissioner of Police Keith Miller was hopeful that lightening would strike once again. This was not to be.{{more}}
Miller had invited several other residents of the Edinboro and Ottley Hall communities who are reputed to be engaged in gang warfare to meet with him, but only one person turned up at the Police Conference Room on Tuesday, August 18th.
Miller told members of the media that he had invited the persons the day before and they had agreed to show up. However, after nearly three hours of waiting, reporters walked away empty-handed.
On August 12, 2009, at the Police Conference room, Edinboro resident Jomo Brudy shook hands with Ottley Hall rivals, Kelroy Patterson, 22, and Junior Nash, 18, after giving Commissioner Miller the assurance that the feuds would end.
One police officer said that he believes that the meeting venue is one factor which contributes to no-show of these persons.
Taking a more direct approach to curb the problems that exist, Commissioner Miller and other members of the local constabulary were scheduled to hold a meeting with residents of Edinboro and Ottley Hall at the church building at the Ottley Hall junction yesterday, in an effort to create a safer and more harmonious environment in this country. Area representative René Baptiste was also expected to attend that meeting.
Come next Monday, a similar meeting will be held for residents of Redemption Sharpes. That meeting will be attended by Cabinet Secretary Bernard Morgan and will be held at 5pm at the old Anglican Church building. (KW)
