Six to study in Taiwan
Six young Vincentians will soon be residents of Taiwan as they have been awarded scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies there starting in August this year.{{more}}
The six are the recipients of the 2009 Taiwanese Scholarships. They will be studying there for three to five years. The soon-to-be university students met with Taiwanese Ambassador Leo Lee for a briefing at the Cobblestone Inn on Tuesday, June 28, 2009. The students are Osric Browne, Reana Solomon, Cathianna Prescott, Kwesi Richards, Shafana Williams and Kent Thomas.
The awardees, who are between 22 and 28 years old, will pursue four to five year degrees. Cathianna Prescott of Belair is set to do a four-year course in Physical Therapy at the National Taiwan University and has high expectations of her educational experience abroad. She chose the field of Physical Therapy because he has a passion to help people.
Kwesi Richards of Southwood will spend four years at the National Cheng Chi University studying Computer Science.
âI love computers, everything about computers,â he disclosed. Shafana Williams of Questelles will pursue a five-year course in Information Management at Ming Chuan University, while Osric Browne is undertaking a four-year course at Kun Shan University in Mechanical Engineering. Kent Thomas will study Civil Engineering at National Taiwan Normal University.
Last year five Vincentians students received scholarships. A total of 24 Vincentians have received scholarships since the inception of the programme in 2004.
