SHE magazine’s summer issue is here

SHE magazine fans will be pleased to hear that the summer issue is now available at newsstands and bookstores across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Vanessa Henry, Advertising Manager at Star Publishing, the magazine’s printer and publisher, visited SVG earlier this week with the intention of promoting SHE and increasing sales locally.{{more}} “It’s a beautiful issue. You won’t be able to put it down!” Henry encouraged Vincentians to buy the magazine because it has quality content, is produced at a high standard and is available at a reasonable cost. She added: “When you buy SHE magazine, you buy Caribbean.”

The summer issue of SHE, features Jamaican Londoner model Leomie Anderson, who is only 16 years old. It boasts 60 pages of colourful summer time fashion and beauty advice, and features articles on new age body tonics and other ayurvedic therapies. There is photographic coverage of the Summit of the Americas, and a travel section that highlights Guadeloupe and St. Maarten. In addition to the regular columnists, there is an interview with actress Vanessa Williams, reportage on domestic violence in the Caribbean, and a relationship section focusing on the importance of fathers in their daughters’ lives.

Henry pointed out that the magazine has been receiving positive feedback from its readers and urged more of them to write in to the editor and express their views on articles featured, and the magazine in general. “We always want to hear from our Caribbean sisters. Let us know what it is about the magazine that you enjoy.”

Having worked with the company for 15 years, Henry acknowledged that the magazine business is not an easy one. In light of the international economic downturn, several international magazines have switched from print to online format or even discontinued production altogether.

Henry remarked that SHE has been able to survive in part due to owning its own printery. Star Publishing prints publications for outside companies and this helps to offset the cost of printing SHE. “We know the business. We know what we’re doing, and we’re able to control the process from start to finish.” However, the magazine has not come out of the economic crisis totally unscathed. Prior to January 2009, SHE was released every 2 months, but now it comes out every 3 months.

Despite this, the company has much to be proud of. SHE magazine won top magazine cover for the second consecutive year at the Caribbean Fashion Awards 2009, and since September 2008, its distribution has increased. Currently, SHE is distributed across the Caribbean, the UK and the USA.

Henry further revealed that the magazine is constantly seeking new contributors. “We’re always on the look out for good stories. We’re encouraging any writers or aspiring writers to send in their work.” Managing Editor Delia Dolor can be contacted at delia.d@stluciastar.com or (758)4507827.
