Jack, the sole manager of the Unionâs operations since its inception in 1978, and other members of staff and outstanding members of the cooperative were honored at an awards and cocktail ceremony last Saturday evening at Government House.
Jack looked back at some hurdles the Union faced in its early stages, reminiscing on the lengthy Annual General Meetings that lasted almost half a day. He noted that although the AGMs can now last less than four hours, more ground is usually covered during that short space of time.
The former teacher and current cricket administrator hinted that the growth of the company was a difficult task, which strenghtened him as an individual and was responsible for the development of thousands of Vincentians over the years. The Union has a membership of over 3000, and more than EC$60 million in assets.
Apart from Jack, Saturdayâs awards ceremony saw longstanding members of the Union being awarded, as well as members of staff, for service to the company.
Chairman of the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), here on a four day visit, was also presented with gifts at the event. (JJ)
