Logos II to open office in SVG

A unique opportunity for Vincentians in the Christian Community is how Kennyatta Lewis of Ministries in Action has described the news that Operation Mobilization (OM) the parent company of the “floating book fair” Logos II is set to open its third Caribbean office here in St. Vincent.

Kennyatta, representing John Lewis, Coordinator of Ministries in Action and president of the Association of Evangelical Churches at a press briefing held aboard the Logos II last Tuesday 04, said that OM is presenting Vincentian Christians the opportunity to tour and impact the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.{{more}} John Lewis has been appointed as OM’s local representative by their Caribbean Director, Englishwoman, Maureen Easting. OM already has offices in Trinidad and Barbados.

Volunteers will now be able to apply locally to work in the one hundred plus countries and two ships that are operated by OM.

Included in the wide scope of work done by the organization is AIDS ministry in various African States, work with “street boys” in Sudan Africa and ministry to prostitutes in Switzerland. There are currently 1500 OM volunteers working in India with the Dalit, the lowest ranked people in the Indian caste (social structure) system. These people are rejected and ostracized from society and OM has undertaken intense relief and educational work with them.

Volunteers between the ages of 18 to 70 are invited to apply and are required to be committed Christians, active in Christian ministry and be able to raise their own financial support. All persons serving with OM, including those on Logos 11 currently completing its two weeks stay in St Vincent are financially supported by gifts pledged and given by friends, families and church brethren.

There are over 40 local temporary volunteers working with the Logos 11 during its stay here and Lewis said that many of them have expressed interest in becoming missionaries with OM and will be guided in this regard. The local office is expected be opened from this Wednesday, after the Carnival festivities and will be located at the Ministries in Action office in Arnos Vale, opposite Trotman’s electronics.
