Government looking at permanent fix for Grenadines housing and water problems
THE GOVERNMENT said that plans are underway to deal with the housing issues in the Grenadines, as well as the water problem that has been plaguing the islands for several years now.
The reassurance has come from parliamentary representative for the Southern Grenadines Terrance Ollivierre, who is also the Minister of Higher Education, Grenadines Affairs, Local Government, Airports and Seaports.
Speaking from Union Island last week after a community consultation, Minister Ollivierre said that while housing was not discussed during the public meeting, he asked people to be patient as the government is working on the housing issues. The Grenadine islands were severely impacted by the passage of Hurricane Beryl,a category-4 storm, on July 1, 2024, and housing remains a problem for large number of residents.
Ollivierre said materials have been transported to Union Island and the government is putting the machinery in place to restart the housing
initiative in the Southern Grenadines of Canouan, Mayreau and Union Island.
