Nation-wide celebrations planned for Botanic Gardens 260th year
Officers of the National Parks Rivers and Beaches Authority (NPRBA) are planning big celebrations to mark 260 years since the establishment of the historic Botanic Gardens. At a media launch of the activities on Saturday, May 3, 2025, Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Twannique Barrow said this year it “…is not a National Parks celebration. This is a nationwide [celebration].”
NPRBA hosted their Parks Exploration Day (PED) on Friday, May 2, when they opened all parks managed by the Authority to the public free of charge.
Patrons will have another opportunity to enter and explore the garden without having to pay on May 30, which will be the next PED that is scheduled to run alongside a plant sale.
The NPRBA will also host an art and video competition during the month of May. The art competition is open to primary school students, while secondary school students will get to share their creativity through video; however, both competitions will culminate on June 23, at an event that will be held to award the winners.
During last year’s media conference for the launch of Nine Nights of Lights, then in its ninth year, the NPRBA promised that the tenth anniversary will be a big spectacle.
