Issue at the Kingstown Port Modernization Project being addressed – PM
The multi-million port that is currently under construction in Kingstown, has encountered a problem, with the loss of some reclaimed material.
Prime Minister, Dr Gonsalves on Wednesday, March 4, 2025 confirmed the “loss of reclamation material which occurred due to the declutching of the sheet piles”.
He told listeners to NBC radio during his regular morning session on Wednesday, that the situation came to light during dredging to achieve the desired depth of the quay wall. He explained that the issue was identified by the contractor, Aecon and also by the government’s Project Management Implementation Unit.
Since it happened, Gonsalves said the matter has been under “continuous investigations”, adding that “the design was reviewed to assess the stability of the quay wall”.
