52-year-old man charged with bigamy

A 52-year-old unemployed man of Diamond who is seems may have been already wedded,was arrested and charged with bigamy when he attempted to marry a nurse last month.

Police arrested Collins James on March 27, 2024, and charged him with the offence of bigamy.

The police said according to their investigations, the accused allegedly did an act that is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the offence by arranging a wedding ceremony between himself, and a 50-year-old nurse of Glen/New York. The offence was alleged to have been committed on February 7,2024, at 12:50 p.m in Glen.

James appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate Court on March,27, 2024 where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was granted bail in the sum of EC$3,000.00 with one surety and is to have no contact with the complainant. He was further ordered to report at the Stubbs Police Station every Monday between 8:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m.

The matter was adjourned and transferred for hearing at Calliaqua on April 2, 2024.
