North Leeward schools dominate 2023 ‘Round de Town’ road relay
Schools from the North Leeward area dominated the 2023 Round de Town Road Relay held on Sunday to mark the commencement of the 2023 local athletic season.
The Chateaubelair Methodist, Fitz Hughes Government and the Troumaca Ontario Secondary walked away with all the titles in the schools division of the competition which various schools and track teams use to test their athletes in a competitive setting.
Fifty-three teams registered to compete in the competition which was held on September 24, 2023 in Kingstown.
The Chateaubelair Methodist School won the Girls Primary School Division in a time of 34 minutes 05.09 seconds, Fitz Hughes Government was second in 35 minutes 27.11 seconds, and third was another Chateaubelair Methodist School team in a time of 36 minutes 41.52 seconds.
The Fitz Hughes Government School won the Boys Primary School Division in a time of 30 minutes 43.06 seconds, Troumaca Government came in second in 31 minutes 47.43 seconds, and third was Chateaubelair Methodist in a time of 32 minutes 13.16 seconds.
In the Secondary School races, the Troumaca-Ontario Secondary School won the Girls Secondary Division in a time of 40 minutes 17.38 seconds, second was Barrouallie Secondary School Warriors in 41 minutes 53.72 seconds, while the Georgetown Secondary School took the third spot in a time of 43 minutes 39.24 seconds.
Troumaca-Ontario Secondary won the Boys Secondary Division in a time 30 minutes 04.66 seconds, St Martin’s Secondary was second in a time of 31 minutes 12.65 seconds, and third was Barrouallie Secondary School Warriors in a time of 32 minutes 09.28 seconds.
Chatoyer Track Club won the Men’s Open division in the final race of the 2023 Round de Town Road Relay in searing heat conditions.
A heavy rainfall cooled the temperatures, but did not slow down the runners. Running the four-legged circuit in a time of 30 minutes 20.90 seconds, Chatoyer took first spot ahead of Roses Academy which came in second in 30 minutes 39.10 seconds, and third was Xcel Track Club in a time of 31 minutes 09.60 seconds.
In the Girls Open Division, High Performance took first place in a time of 42 minutes 44.30 seconds, X-Ceed Sports Club team #8 was second in 52 minutes 28.00 seconds, and third was another X-Ceed Sports Club team 54 minutes 06.60 seconds.
