Stephanie Browne Primary takes IPSAC title
After placing third in 2017 and second last year, the Stephanie Browne Primary School (SBPS), made a further progression by champing the 2018 National Lotteries Authority Inter-Primary Schools Athletics Championships (IPSAC).
The Union Island institution, last Wednesday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, outran the other 48 competing schools, to finish the championships with 253 points.
In the process, the SBPS left last year’s champion Kingstown Preparatory School (KPS), to settle for second place.
KPS tallied 206 points, with CW Prescod Primary placing third on 170 points.
CW Prescod Primary edged out fourth place Questelles Government by a mere one point.
Crowning off the top five places was Buccament Bay Government, with 167 points.

A relieved, but joyous, coach of the SBPS, Leroy Scrubb said it was a reward for the hard work put in over the years and this year was no exception.
“We trained hard for this… We have been doing a lot of rigorous training with the athletes … We trained four times per week,” Scrubb stated.
“After knocking on the door over the years and finally winning, gives me an elated feeling,” Scrubb commented.
Scrubb threw down the gauntlet to the other schools by declaring that they intend to keep the title in 2020.
Awards
Not only did the SBPS take the overall IPSAC title, but the school pouched five of the individual awards handed out for the top age group performers.
The two Under-11 titles went to athletes of the SBPS. Ameilia Alexander, with 20 points, was the male champion and Joemaine Saxon, 25 points, won the female title.
Meanwhile, Joneilla Alexander copped the female Under-9 title, as she registered 34 points.
Diara Bascombe, who ran her way to 35 points, was the female 11 and over champion. Bascombe added the Victrix Ludorum trophy to her collection.
Another of the awards presented went to Tabiah Arrington of South Rivers Methodist, who took the male Under-7 title. Arrington compiled 14 points, and Jordon Peters’ 18 points gave her the female Under-7 title.
