Vincentian nabbed with 1.5 kilos of cocaine in Barbados
A Vincentian socialite, Desrey Veronia Stowe, was on Monday, June 6, stopped at the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados, after authorities suspected the 35-year-old of being in possession of illegal narcotics.
Stowe, known in local social circles as Vernice, arrived in Barbados by air from St Vincent on a LIAT flight and was interviewed by police.
She was referred to Customs for a search of her luggage and during the search, two bottles containing a liquid were found. Tests revealed that the liquid in both bottles was cocaine, weighing 1.5 kilograms.{{more}}
As a result of the find, the mother of two was arrested and charged with: possession of cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine, trafficking cocaine and importation of cocaine.
She was expected to appear at the District B Magistrateâs Court yesterday.
Stowe is said to have, in the past, been involved in intimate relationships with a former country manager of a telecommunications company here and a politician who contested the 2011 general elections in SVG. It is alleged that the men are the fathers of her two children.
Stowe is the third Vincentian to be charged in Barbados this month with cocaine possession, as on June 1, two 29-year-old Vincentian men were fined $25,000 forthwith and remanded to Dodds Prison, after they appeared before the Barbados District C Magistrateâs Court on drug charges.
Renrick Roger Richards of Edinboro and Ramon Rupert Horne pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cocaine, possession with intent to supply cocaine, trafficking cocaine and importation of cocaine.
They will reappear in court on June 15.
Reports are that on May 31, the men arrived in Barbados via a LIAT flight from St Vincent and the Grenadines. Their luggage was searched separately by customs officers and in each of the bags, half kilo of cocaine was discovered wrapped in newspaper.(LC)
