Blondie Bird and Friends mas band on fire for Vincy Mas 2014

With their 2014 presentation “Heat,” Blondie Bird and Friends mas band was able to cop a number of titles, including “Junior Band of the Year,” at the Junior Carnival competition on Monday.

The Guinness, Y De Lima and Hitz FM 103.7 sponsored band also earned the first and third place positions in the Best Junior Section with “Heat fo’ so” and ‘Fireworks” respectively.{{more}}

The band also copped first place in the Junior Queen of Carnival competition, with “Fiery,” which was portrayed by Jayniah Prescott.

They placed second in the Junior King of Carnival competition with “Heatwave,” which was portrayed by Jelani Niles.

Blondie Bird and Friends took the top position in the Individuals 5-9 category with their production “Fiery” and placed first and second in the Individuals 10-15 category with “In the Heat of the Night” and “Rings of Fire” respectively.

In the uptown competition, the band walked away with second place.

Last year’s overall winners, SVG Players International, placed first in the uptown competition with their 2014 presentation, “Beyond the Rainbow.” They also captured the Junior King of Carnival title with “Thunderstorm,” which was portrayed by Meshach Pierre.

However, the mas band had to settle for second place in a number of categories, including Best Junior Section and Junior Band of the Year.

They were third in the Individuals 5-9 and 10 – 15 categories and fourth in the Junior Queen of Carnival category with their presentation “A stairway to heaven,” presented by Raphiella Bailey.

Digicel Ju-c Nelson Bloc placed third in the Junior Band of the Year competition, and also walked away with second place in the Individuals 5-9 category and Junior Queen of Carnival. They took fourth place in the Individuals 10-15 category and fifth and sixth place in the Best Junior Section. They were also sixth in the uptown competition.

The fourth spot for Junior Band of the year went to High Voltage Mas Productions, which is sponsored by Presidente and Metrocint General Insurance Co Ltd.

High Voltage also managed to take third position in Junior King of Carnival with “Virus,” portrayed by Lorenzo John, fourth position in the Individual 5-9 category and fifth in the Uptown competition.

Rounding out the other Band of the Year positions were Owen Ralph and the Professionals in fifth place and Hairoun Dragons Cultural Organization in sixth place.
