Being successful in school
Dr Jozelle Miller

Being successful in school

For some students going back into the classroom is a welcome thought, as they eagerly anticipate learning new things, expanding their minds and pressing towards a successful end of year. On the other hand, there are also those students who are intimidated by the thought, as they are mindful of the work that is ahead, they lack confidence in their ability and are worried about failure at the end of the school year. I would like to alleviate some of the stress surrounding success or failure by providing a few tips that may be instrumental in helping with the achievement of success for all students.

According to Ecole Globale (2020), these are guaranteed tips to help you be successful:

1. Create A Weekly Schedule:

Many students have a lot of classes, it is important to make a rough schedule to help you manage. Through a weekly schedule, you will be able to manage all your classes.

When you give proper time to complete all your work, then no one will stop you from becoming a successful student.

2. Don’t Multitask:

If you become a multitasker, then you must switch between tasks. Multi-tasking can and will diminish your efficiency in every field. Do one task at a time. If you are doing your homework or studying, then only focus on that, don’t think about any other work.

Some students are physically present in class, but mentally they are not; it is advised that you try to keep your mind focused on the task at hand.

3. Be an Organized Student:

Some students end up wasting their precious time and work in a last-minute hustle.

These kinds of students are not organized. So, to become organized, students have to use a planner or calendar, be responsible for their work, set a daily reminder to check if any homework is due or not, and don’t leave anything for the last moment. Always set a deadline to complete your work; doing this, you will never forget any work.

4. Challenge Yourself:

Don’t do only the assigned work. Challenge yourself and do some extra work in which you need to think deeply. To be a successful student in school, it is important to learn information outside the syllabus. For this, you can use some educational sites. If you get some added knowledge and information from outside your syllabus, then you will likely learn more than other students and become successful.

5. Break Your Tasks in Smaller Ones:

When the tasks are big, they seem complicated, massive, and hard to do. This is one of the major reasons that students delay their work. Break all big tasks in a smaller one, and it will help you. Doing this, the tasks become much easier, and you are not afraid of them and not postponing them for the future.

6. Make A Specific Plan for A Study Session:

Most students have a mindset that they will study hard for their exams. This sounds good, but have you ever made a specific plan for your studies? So, before studies, it is essential to make a specific plan or objective. You can use this effective way not only before studies but also in other fields of your life. Outline exactly the areas you wish to focus on during the period of study and find ways to assess the knowledge gained after the study period; this may mean getting someone to quiz you or finding a quiz online.

7. Manage Your Emotions and Thoughts:

Some students lose focus and motivation and are typically demoralized during the first term of school. Those students may feel demoralized because they internalize failed efforts on assignments, exams etc. If they are not doing well in their academics, this may also break them emotionally in other areas of their lives as well. So, the question arises, how can they become successful in school? While refocusing and putting in the work towards improvement, it is important to regulate and manage your emotions and thoughts effectively. Be positive and take one step at a time.

8. Exercise Regularly:

Regular exercise helps you to increase your focus and concentration, makes you more productive and creative and you will remember the information better. There are also other additional benefits of exercise. To become a successful student, you must make exercise a fixed part of your daily schedule.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. — Albert Schweitzer.

This quote emphasizes that finding joy and passion in your studies can lead to success, rather than the other way around. All the best for the new school year.
