How to co-wash your hair

The old-fashioned methods of how we wash our hair do more damage than good. Let’s explore the method of co-washing. First, let me explain what co-washing is. Conditioner washing or “co-washing” is a low-lather, fast-rinsing and soap-free alternative to traditional shampoo that instantly leaves hair with incredible body, shine and movement.{{more}} If you’re excited about this new way to wash your hair and instantly try to use your regular conditioner to “co-wash,” then yes, you’ll be left with limp locks. But, that’s only because traditional conditioners are only meant to … condition (not cleanse)! To really get the right results, you must use a product that is specifically meant for conditioner washing, since they can also lift dirt and impurities, all while treating your strands. And not to mention, it’s important that you find one that works with your specific hair type as well — or else you could be using a formula that will only weigh your hair down or leave it looking … unwashed! Contrary to popular belief, washing your hair with regular shampoo strips it of its natural oils and gives way to breakage and a dull appearance. But co-washing can be done as often as your hair needs it. If you do not have the specific co-washing product, then you can try this method. You will need a shampoo and conditioner of any brand, but with no parabens or sulphates. Simply apply the shampoo only to your scalp and wash away the impurities. Do not apply to the rest of your hair. After you wash the shampoo out, you simply apply your conditioner to your hair, leaving it in for a minute or so; then rinse. You can then apply a leave in conditioner of your regular hair oils/products and style as desired. If you tend to use a lot of product in your hair or have oily hair, then this method isn’t for you. You should get a product that co-washes and cleanses your hair. After a few weeks you will notice the difference in the smoothness and condition of your hair.
