Maple Netball Club reflects on contribution of Peggy Ince-Hull

Mrs Peggy Ince-Hull was a pleasant, soft-spoken lady with class and integrity, one whom we have never seen gotten angry or even raised her voice but was firm with a motherly kind of love.

Her netball career began at a very early age and on leaving primary school joined the Maple Netball Club. She played in the shooting position and was an exceptionally accurate shooter who play at the highest level in the sport.

Mrs Hull represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines and was one of the youngest players on the team. She went on the represent the region and was Captain of the first West Indies Netball team; they toured England in the 1963 World Tournament. Mrs. Hull was also an advanced umpire, she umpired locally, regionally, and internationally.

Peggy Ince-Hull was an administrator, who held the position of treasurer of Maple Netball Club for over six decades before relinquishing that position in 2014. However, she was ever present and continued giving guidance to the younger Maple members.

Mrs. Hull managed the club on numerous tours, the most recent being our tour to San Diego, California in 2013, where she also played her final netball match well in her seventies at the “Golden Oldies Netball Tournament.”

Netball was a part of her. She was always at the Club’s training and at our games. You would have seen her sitting at the far left corner of the pavilion, in the second row, that was her spot. Members looked forward to her baked treats and fruits as she rewarded us at training and games. This was her nature, always giving and encouraging. At the Club’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2001, Mrs. Hull was honoured. She also received the Sports Ambassadorship twice, the latest being 2020.

Peggy Ince-Hull, in many respects, has given the Maple Netball Club and netball in general, stalwart support. Mrs. Hull is gone but will never be forgotten. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
