Team SVG triumphs at Bilateral Invitational Chess Competition
THE ST.VINCENT and the Grenadines Chess Federation has hailed an outstanding performance of the National Lotteries Junior Chess Team at the inaugural Fedon Bilateral Invitational Chess Competition which took place on February 14, 2026 at the Point Salines Hotel in Grenada.
After three rounds of intense play,Team SVG demonstrated remarkable focus, resilience, and sportsmanship against strong regional opponents, the Federation said in a release.
In Round One there was a 3–2 victory, with determined performances across all boards.
Round Two returned a 4–1 victory, showcasing strategic discipline and fighting spirit.
Round Three resulted in a 2.5–2.5 draw, a closely contested round with both teams giving their all.
With a final score of 9.5 – 5.5,Team SVG emerged victorious, reflecting the talent, dedication, and teamwork of every player, the Federation stated. St. Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by:Vedant Shetty, Captain; Le’mar Abbott; Nathanael Lawrence; Stacy Baptiste-King; and Arianna Balcombe.
The team was managed by Oris Robinson, with Terrance Latctman as coach.
Their leadership and preparation have been identified as being instrumental in the players’ growth and success. The team which left for Grenada on February 13, was due to return home yesterday, February 16, 2026. Their next challenge will be the ChatoyerYouth Tournament in March 2026, where they aim to continue their winning streak and proudly represent St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Federation has commended the players for representing the nation with integrity and determination, and has extended sincere appreciation to the National Lotteries Authority for its continued support of youth chess development in St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
