Blue House takes title in South Rivers School Sports
BLUE HOUSE,WITH a total of 464 points, on Sunday, February 8,won the 2026 South Rivers Methodist School’s athletics title at the South Rivers Playing Field.
They were pushed all the way to the finish by second placed Yellow House which ended on 448 points, and Red House third with 407 points.
Blue House’s win was led by their individual champion in the under-7 males age group, Jaiden Baptiste, who tallied 20 points; under-11 Boys champion Toran Butler, with 27 points; and over-11 Girls champion Seymourah Grant who amassed 32 points.
Individual champions for Yellow House were under-7 Girls champion Erica Walters, with 20 points; under-11 Girls champion Zyana Hackshaw, 23 points; and over-11 Boys champion Ryan Blake, with 37 points.
Janaya Williams, 25 points; and Saflon McMillan, 20 points, were the Red House leading performers.
For Blue House Seymourah Grant’s 32 points won her the Victrix Ludorum title, while the Victor Ludorum title went to Ryan Blake ofYellow House,37 points.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, Principal Roslyn Johnny, told the assembled current and former students, teachers, parents, and supporters of the various Houses, “I want you to know that the values of perseverance, leadership, mutual respect and proper sportsmanship can be developed through your involvement in sports. These are essential qualities for success in life”.
She reminded spectators of the outstanding sportsmen and women that “this little village of South Rivers has produced and is still producing, outstanding sportsmen and women in the field of athletics, cricket, volleyball and basketball”.
She identified Gary Matthias,Vance Andrews, Deighton Butler, Lindon James, Joe Williams, Serene McMillan and Oenesia Moore, “just to name a few.”
At present, six Under-19 cricketers from South Rivers are part of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines national Under-19 training squad in the persons of Glasley Henson, Ronaldo Warren, Edden Baptiste, Jeshorn Johnny, Tyrese Hackshaw, and Kesean Hoyte.
The principal acknowledged the “sincere efforts of our teachers and ancillary staff, the unwavering support of parents, and the encouragement of our community” in making the sports day possible noting that it “shows the power of support and togetherness”.
Also delivering remarks was Parliamentary Representative for North Central Windward Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, who encouraged the athletes to give of their best “in a spirit of true camaraderie and competitiveness”.
