Minister will not seek re-election, Cricket Association cites an “oversight”
THE STVINCENT and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc.(SVGCA), has offered an explanation to an earlier release which indicated that Minister of Sports, Kaschaka Cupid, was among current executive members who have indicated their availability for re-election.
In that release to clubs, the SVGCA named one member of the executive who was not seeking re-election whenever the Association holds its next elective Annual General Meeting.
In an unsigned, undated release emailed on February 9, 2026 to all media houses, the secretariat of the SVGCA Inc. said, “The Association also wishes to clarify that the Honourable Kaschaka Cupid, Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture and Creative Industries, indicated during the last Executive Meeting that he would not be contesting any position within the Association, due to his Ministerial responsibilities”.
The release added that “any previous indication suggesting otherwise was the result of an oversight”, and noted that “For the avoidance of doubt, the Minister did not express any intention to contest an election within the Association”.
The Association said it “regrets any confusion caused by the earlier communication and thanks all clubs and stakeholders for their understanding, cooperation, and continued support as it moves forward”.
In an article on Friday, February 6, 2026, SEARCHLIGHT reported that minister Cupid was up to contest for re-election to the executive.
Correspondence sent to clubs of the association by its secretary, Samuel Holder, dated January 26, 2026, had informed that the lone person not seeking re-election was long standing Treasurer, Jenry Ollivierre.
After informing its affiliates of the deferral of its protracted AGM, the release stated: “The Association also takes this opportunity to express sincere appreciation to Treasurer Jenry Ollivierre for more than a decade of dedicated service to the organization; he has indicated that he will not be available for election in the upcoming meeting. All other current Executive Members have indicated their willingness to continue serving for the upcoming term”.
The SVGCA Inc. for the second year, has been unable to convene its Annual General Meeting within the constitutionally stipulated time frame.
The delay has been attributed to the unavailability of audited financial statements.
