Shad Thomas notching up Basketball accolades
The 2025/2026 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Basketball season is unfolding in consistency for Vincentian, Shad Thomas.
The 24-year-old forward-center, has enjoyed personal success in the last few months providing the fulcrum needed for the Azusa Pacific University.
Among his recent accolades were back-to-back Player of the Month rewards, and PacWest Defender of the week.
In addition, Thomas has reeled off three consecutive double doubles, registering double figures in both points and rebounds.
Thomas’ 19 rebounds versus Vanguard on January 22, became the highest in PacWest this season and highest for APU since 2025. To the good, Thomas at the other end of the court sank 19 points.
Such form has left Thomas with 16.3 points per games and 10.3 rebounds thus far for the season.
His current outfit was loading since 2019 when he entered the United States as he pursued a Basketball Scholarship made good by fellow Vincentian, Kishon Bishop.
Seizing the opportunity, Thomas, who was born on Union Island and attended the Union Island Secondary School, immediately impacted when he was enrolled in the Salem Baptiste Christian School, in North Carolina.
While at that institution, Thomas brought joy, as he helped the school for the first time, win the Conference Championships in 2020.
Transitioning to the Catawba Community College, Thomas in his first year at that institution- 2021 to 2022 was the top rebounder nationwide and was among the top five in Region Ten, at the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Division II level.
Thomas was also instrumental in Catawba College winning the South Atlantic Conference title in 2023 and 2024. Before migrating to the USA, Thomas represented Tanty Ma and the BlueChip Basketball Academy, here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
