Windwards Women break losing Cricket jinx
AFTER LOSING ALL Their matches in the Cricket West Indies Women’s T/20 Blaze, the Windwards broke their six match string of defeats to comprehensively beat Trinidad and Tobago in their opening fixture of the CG United Super 50 tournament.
Played at the Sion Hill Playing Field last Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the they defeated Trinidad and Tobago by 91 runs.
The Windwards posted 225 for 7 from their 50 overs. Jannillea Glasgow-73, Afy Fletcher- 61, and Zaida James- 38.
For Trinidad and Tobago, Nadia Mohammed had 2 for 42.
In reply, Trinidad and Tobago made 134 all out. Lee Ann Kirby struck 31, Karishma Ramharack- 29, and Britney Cooper-28.
Afy Fletcher picked up 4 for 23; and Jannillea Glasgow had 2 for 14.
At the Park Hill Playing Field, Barbados avenged their two losses to the Leewards in the Twenty/20 format to win by 79 runs.
Barbados scored 144 all out from 47.5 overs. Naijanni Cumberbatch top scored with 74 not out. Bowling for the Leewards Shawnisha Hector took 4 for 19, and Davronique Maynard, 3 for 22.
The Leewards responded with 65 all out in 25.5 overs. Shamalia Connell took 4 for 17, Aaliyah Alleyne- 3 for 3, and Shakera Selman –2 for 6, bowling for Barbados.
At Cumberland, Guyana saw off Jamaica by five wickets. Jamaica fell for 77 all off 25.5 overs. Christiana Mc Kensie was their best batter with 25. Ashmini Munisar took 4 wickets for 23,Tramaine Marks 2 for 7, and Kaysia Schultz had 2 for 16.
Guyana replied with 77 for 5 from 27 overs. Shabika Gajnabi scored 23 not out.
The second round of matches in the tournament started yesterday, January 30, 2026 which saw the Leewards and Windwards facing off at Cumberland; at Park Hill, Trinidad and Tobago taking on Guyana, and Barbados and Jamaica squaring off at Sion Hill.
The abbreviated tournament will see the Leewards meeting Jamaica at Sion Hill tomorrow, Saturday, January 31.
Also tomorrow,Windwards meet Guyana at Park Hill, and at Cumberland, Trinidad and Tobago faces off against Barbados.
