New government to complete lighting of four playing fields
EXPECT THE FOUR playing fieldsat Dauphine, Golden Grove, Layou and London, that are at advanced stages of light installation, to be completed by the new government which came into office following the November 27, 2025 general elections.
Assurance of this came from Minister ofYouth, Sports, Culture, and the Creative Industries, Kaschaka Cupid, at a press conference of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) last Tuesday, January 20, 2026. He said the new administration will see the lighting is completed within “three to four months”. The process of lighting the four sporting facilities began late last year by the then Unity Labour Party administration. Cupid said some of the work already done was “extensive”, hence the completion will be realized within the first half of 2026.
“The previous administration, they would have contracted a local businessman as part of the project to procure the lights, so the lights are currently on island,” Cupid stated.
“Lighting our playing fields gives us an added advantage because it allows athletes and communities to engage in sports and wellness activities after hours. It creates opportunities for exercise, bonding and community development,” the sports minister stated.
Cupid is anticipating the honour and privilege of turning on the lights at the Dauphine Playing Field in West St George, the constituency of which he is the parliamentary representative.
