Leewards blazing in Regional Women’s Cricket at Arnos Vale
The Leewards have remained perfect after four rounds of matches in the 2026 West Indies Senior women’s T/20 Blaze Cricket that is being played at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
Following earlier wins over Jamaica, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago, the Leewards chalked up their fourth yesterday, Monday, January 19, against previous joint front runners, Barbados. A 31-run win over the Barbadians, has put the Leeward islanders into the final.
Asked to bat, the Leewards posted 118 for 9 from their 20 overs. Qiana Joseph- 27;Tonya Martin-23; and Jahzara Claxton-22.
Bowling for Barbados, Naijanni Cumberbatch had 5 for 15, and Shanika Bruce picked up 2 for 14.
However, the potent Barbados batting wilted under the steady bowling of the Leewards, and they replied with 87 for 9 from their 20 overs. Asabi Callendar’s 17 was the top score.
Qiana Joseph- 2 for 10; Shawnisha Hector- 2 for 13; and Amanda Edwards- 2 for 17, were the main wicket takers, while there was a wicket each for Jahzara Claxton, Rozel Liburd, and Davronique Maynard.
Before defeating Barbados, the Leewards had seen off Jamaica by four runs, Guyana by seven runs and Trinidad and Tobago by four wickets.
The final round of matches takes place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 and features Trinidad and Tobago versus Jamaica from 9:30 a.m. Guyana will play Barbados from 2:30 p.m; and the Leewards and the Windwards meet from 7:00 p.m.
The tournament ends on Friday with the fifth place play off from 9:30 a.m.The third place is set from 2:30 p.m; and the final from 7:00 p.m.
Guyana are the defending champions.
