Guyana off to winning start in Women’s T/20 Blaze
Defending champions Guyana, along with the Leewards and Barbados were all victorious in round one of the 2026 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Senior Women’s T/20 Blaze that got going on Tuesday, January 13, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
Guyana defeated the Windwards by seven runs.
Guyana, asked to bat, reached 96 for 5 from their 20 overs: Shakiba Gajnabi- 38. The Windwards responded with 89 for 5 from their 20 overs.
Jannillea Glasgow- 41, and Afy Fletcher- 33.
The Leewards overcame Jamaica by nine runs. Sent into bat, the Leewards scored 108 for 5 from their 20 overs: Shawnisha Hector- 56, and Amanda Hector- 20. Chedean Nation captured 2 for 15.
In reply, Jamaica scored 99 for 8 from their 20 overs. Chedean Nation- 48, and Stafanie Taylor- 25.
Shawnisha Hector took 2 for 15, and Jahzara Claxton- 2 for 26.
And Barbados defeated Trinidad and Tobago by three wickets. Asked to bat, Trinidad and Tobago chalked up 97 for 5 from their 20 overs. Britney Cooper- 33 not out, and Karishma Ramharack- 21. Naijanna Cumberbatch snared 2 for 18.
In their successful run chase, Barbados got to 99 for 7 from 18.3 overs. Eboni Brathwaite scored 26, and Shamilia Connell made 16 not out. Brianna Harricharan picked up 3 for 8.
Round two was set for yesterday, January 15, with Barbados coming up against Jamaica, the Windwards versus Trinidad and Tobago, and the Leewards versus Guyana.
Round three takes place on Saturday, January 17. The order of play shows the Leeward taking on Trinidad and Tobago from 9:30 a.m; Barbados and the Windwards battle from 2:30 p.m; and from 7:00 p.m, Jamaica faces Guyana.
On Monday, January 19, round four pits the Leewards against Barbados from 9:30 a.m; Trinidad and Tobago faces Guyana from 2:30 p.m; and Jamaica opposes the Windwards from 7:00 p.m.
