Handal Roban gains World Athletics Championships qualification
Handal Roban’ s first place run of 1:44.39 in the Men’s 800m last Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the West Chester Mile in Henderson, Pennsylvania, USA, has earned him direct qualification to next month’s World Athletics Championships.
Other than making it to the global event set for Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21, Roban lowered his personal bests as well as the all-time St Vincent and the Grenadines record.
Having reset the national 800m mark, Rohan has consistently improved on his time in the two-lap event. Before last Thursday, that St Vincent and the Grenadines record stood at 1:45.16.
Roban, who turns 23 next month, is the St Vincent and the Grenadines Under- 20 record holder for the 800 and 1500m, along with the 800m and 1000m at indoors.
An Olympian who also represented St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Commonwealth Games, Roban is a multiple medallist at the Junior Carifta, Central American and Caribbean Games, as well as at the age group and senior levels of NACAC.
He will once again feature at the NACAC senior championships in the Bahamas, starting today, August 15 and running to August 17, 2025.
