Zefal Bailey completes National Cycling hat trick
Zefal Bailey claimed his third National Cycling Championships title in succession when he easily won the 2025 edition staged, on July 19 and 20.
First, Bailey took Saturday’s Time Trial from the Koscab Building in Arnos Vale to Belvedere, doing so in a winning time of 10:42.
He then added the road race segment on Sunday, July 20, being the first to cross the finish line at Casson Hill.
He took 3:05.10.92, to cycle from the decommissioned E.T Joshua Airport Tarmac to Orange Hill. Bailey, along with second place, Lucky Antrobus, then lopped from Orange Hill to Mount Young thrice, before ending at Casson Hill.
For Antrobus, it was his second runner up spot in consecutive days, as he timed 10:43 in the Time Trial and clocked 3:16. 26.41 in Sunday’s road race.
Copping the Masters’ category in Sunday’s race was Deptor Culzac, who was the lone competitor to complete the distance from the Tarmac to Orange Hill, and then to Casson Hill. Culzac’s time was 2:35.37.77.
Like father, like son as Gabriel Doyle was the only entrant in the Junior category. Riding a faster time than Culzac, Doyle stopped the clock at 2:29.65.
Meanwhile, Martin Bollers docked third in the Time Trial with a 12:53 clocking.
Bollers, along with Maxian Alvis and Cauldric Fraser, entered Sunday’s road race but were unable to complete the route.
