Young Vincy Sailors attend Caribbean ILCA Pathway Clinic
Scarlett Hadley and Kai Marks-Dasent, represented St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG)at the inaugural Caribbean ILCA Pathway Clinic, in the Bahamas from July 1 to 7, 2025.
Conducted by three-time Olympian, Andrew Lewis, of Trinidad and Tobago, the Vincentian duo were among 32 sailors from eight countries, that also included the USA, Canada, Cayman Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados, as well as host the Bahamas.
For the two Vincentians, the clinic was timely as it prepared them for upcoming events, whilst providing a comprehensive performance environment that extended beyond sailing techniques.
Hadley is preparing for the upcoming Junior Pan American Games in Uruguay, while Marks-Dasent is set to compete at the ILCA UK National and Open Championships in Wales.
The clinic involved fitness training, classroom sessions, video debriefs, and on-the-water drills designed to simulate race conditions and develop tactical awareness.
Accordingly, with a strong emphasis on fitness, nutrition, and mental discipline, the clinic aimed to equip the young sailors with the tools needed to compete at an elite level.
Sabrina Marks- Dasent, Vincy Sailing’s Performance Manager noted, “This clinic is a game-changer for sailing development in the Caribbean. The collaboration among nations and the shared commitment of these young athletes shows the growing strength of our regional sailing community. The Clinic has laid the foundation for a stronger, more united future for sailing in the Caribbean.”
She lauded the contribution of Inter-Caribbean Airways and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Olympic Committee for making the travel to the Bahamas possible for the two young Vincentian sailors.
