Junior Squash players carving out regional niche

Two first places, as well as two third places in the individual segment, along with a fourth place in the teams competition, were St Vincent and the Grenadines’ takings at the 2025 Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships, held in the Cayman Islands from June 29 to July 5.

Featuring an all-male line up in the championships, St Vincent and the Grenadines copped the

Under-11 title via Savante Padmore, with Jayden George outclassing all comers to take the Under-17 crown.

Zavin Garrick was third in the Under-11, and Aiden De Freitas held a similar placement in the Under-15.

Apart from the medallists, St Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by Ethan Webster, in the Under-13 age group, and Deron Lewis in the Under-19.

“They exceeded expectations with such confidence and composed wins. This speaks volumes about how serious St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Squash,” Coach, Amber Glasgow said.

However, Glasgow bemoaned the fact that because of being short-manned, St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) lost to Trinidad and Tobago in the semi-finals of the teams’ competition.

“It was heartbreaking to fall short in the team event due to not having a full line up; it was incredible that we still reached the semi-finals. We lost to Trinidad and Tobago by 17 points, having entered the semi-finals 33 points down. We were tied on matches and games,” Glasgow related.

She added that SVG left the Cayman Islands with their ratings up, as others are viewing the country’s development in the sport, giving much approval of the incremental improvements that are being made.
