Duncan leads SVG’s efforts at NACAC Age Group Championships
Christian Duncan was St Vincent and the Grenadines’ best performer in the North American,Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Age Group Championships, which took place on July 5 and 6, 2025, at the Olympic Stadium, Managua, Nicaragua.
Duncan, who competed in the Boys Under-13 age group of the five event Pentathlon, put together 2,787 points. He finished in the eighth position.
Duncan accumulated his points having completed the 60m, Long Jump, High Jump, Ball Throw and the 1000m.
St Vincent and the Grenadines was also represented by Naaliah Stevenson in the Under-13 age group.
Stevenson finished 23rd with her 2,089 points. Like Duncan, Stevenson competed in the 60m, High Jump,Long Jump and Ball Throw, but ran 800m.
Ariel Stephens was the other Vincentian athlete who competed for honours at the Championships.
Stephens had to do it alone, as Kingroy Hepburn was not able to compete in the Under-15 Heptathlon, due to a hamstring injury.
Stephens competed in seven events- the 80m, Long Jump, High Jump, 60m Hurdles, Ball Throw, Shot Putt and the 1000m run. All told, she registered 3,258 points, finishing 18th .
Overall, St Vincent and the Grenadines accumulated 8,134 points, to end in 17th position.
This was mainly because they did not carry the full complement of eight athletes: two males and two females in each of the two age groups.
Grenada was the top performer with a combined total of 27,993 points. The Bahamas was second on
27,972 and third was Barbados on 27,716 points.
In total, 20 countries participated in the two-day event. The others were the Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Curacao, Bermuda, Nicaragua, Cayman Islands, Anguilla, St Martin, Aruba, Honduras, Cuba,
Costa Rica, El Salvador, along with the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Accompanying the Vincentian quartet of athletes were Manager, Kelisha Ashton- Yorke; and Coach, Chester Morgan.
