HFK maximizing training and competition opportunities for Karatekas
The Hairouna Karate Federation (HKF), the governing body for the sport here in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), is making good on opportunities to better the expertise of their athletes.
This, as two of HKF’s promising athletes, Christian Joseph and J-don Matthews, from June 16 to 21, 2025, participated in the PanAm Sports Karate Development Training Camp in Paraguay.
The prestigious event is designed to prepare young athletes ahead of the upcoming Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay, this August.
The athletes were accompanied by national coach , Alvin Seales, whose guidance continues to play a critical role in the development of the team.
Meanwhile, another milestone was etched in the Federation’s history, as Liam Bollers represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the 17th WKF Youth Camp and Youth Cup in Poreč, Croatia, held from June 23 to 25, 2025.
His participation marks the first time a Vincentian athlete has attended this globally recognised annual event.
Bollers, accompanied by coach Adrian John, competed in both Kata and the -35kg Male Kumite category.
Delighted with the many positives that are emerging from the HKF, its President, Claude Bascombe Jr, expressed delight in the progress being made.
“The Harouna Karate Federation is pleased with our latest developments, and we remain committed to its vision of producing world-class athletes, building internationally recognized officials, and fostering the growth of karate across St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” Bascombe commented.
