Delano Benjamin tops SVGCC’s Sports Awards

Delano Benjamin walked off with the Sports Personality of the Year accolade when the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) held its fourth annual Awards Ceremony at the College Hospitality and Maritime Training Institute, Diamond, on June, 19, 2025.

Benjamin also received the award for being the Footballer of the Year, and the Sportsman of the Year.

Benjamin was able to cop the titles on the back of his performance representing Sports Sciences Soon

Grads in the College’s Invitational Football Competition.

In that competition, he took the accolade for Best Midfielder, and was named overall MVP of the competition.

Benjamin represents Volcanoes in the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation’s National Club Championships, and apart from being a vital cog in the Volcanoes wheel for premiership status, he is among the leading goal scorers in the Tier II Division.

Other persons awarded by the SVGCC were:

Jamarrah Coombs- Netballer of the Year; Kodi Grant- Cricketer of the Year; Lamont Gregg- Table Tennis Player of the Year, as well as the Non-Affiliate Athlete of the Year.

Zwayne Fisher was voted Basketballer of the Year; Tayon Burgin- Volleyballer of the Year; and Track and Field Athlete saw an unprecedented tie between J’ Mar Saunders and AJ Delpesche.

Securing the Non-Affiliate Entity of The Year was BlueChip Basketball Academy, for the fourth year in succession; and the Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies- the Division of the Year award.

Taking the Sportswoman of the Year title was Kemeisha Antoine; while there was a special recognition to- Sports Sciences Soon Grads Football Team; and rewards to the Unsung Heroes.

The Unsung Heroes list comprised Joevandy Joseph, Jamelia Maloney, Josh De Grads, Johnathan Medford, Zahiem Paul, Kimesha Antoine and Anthony John.

The theme for the ceremony was “Perspectives from the past; Possibilities for the Future”.

Former General Secretary of the SVG Football Federation, Devron Poyer was the featured speaker.
