South Rivers Methodist School takes 2025 Primary School cricket title

Having lost the 2024 St. Vincent and the Grenadines Primary Schools cricket finals to the Park hill Government School, the team from South Rivers Methodist School ensured that the 2025 title did not slip from their grasp again. They took the title of Primary Schools Cricket champions with an emphatic 75 run victory over Owia at the South Rivers Playing Field on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The Owia Government School batted first, scoring 198 in 20 overs; Amarlie Nanton being the top-scorer with 22 runs.

In response, the South Rivers Methodist School scored 273 in 20 overs; Zidon John top-scored with 25. The outcome sent players, teachers, parents, and other supporters into a joyous frenzy.

In the awards ceremony following the match, the following were rewarded:

Allison Dalzell of South Rivers Methodist School- Best wicket keeper and also Best batman.

Danroy Nanton of Owia Government School, Best bowler.

The award for Best Female player went to Shania Shallow of the South Rivers Methodist School; and Liam Baptiste of the South Rivers Methodist School emerged MVP.

Delivering remarks at the closing ceremony, newly appointed Director of Sports, Jomadean May, told the players he was pleased with the quality of the cricket that he witnessed, and of the support from the community.

May said one of the ideas he is toying with is to have the finals played “under lights at the Arnos Vale Cricket Ground.”

He felt that would encourage the players to perform better, and referred as an example to 14-year-old Indian batsman, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest player in Indian Premier League history, and marked the occasion with an audacious first-ball six. Suryavanshi ,who plays for the Rajasthan Royals also became the youngest centurion in Men’s T20 cricket, scoring a century off just 35 balls in this year’s IPL.
