Vincentian athletes show prowess and promise at Whitsuntide Games

Regarded as ones to watch for the future of Track and Field in St Vincent and the Grenadines, some athletes showed their potential at the 2025 Whitsuntide Games held in Grenada on June 7 and 8, 2025.

At the top of the tree was 11-year-old Tyler Hercules who gave a sneak peek into his future, when he bagged three gold medals. Hercules lit up the Kirani James Stadium, securing wins in the 100, 200 and 300 meters of the Under-13 age group.

Representing Biomechanics, Hercules took the 100m in 12.35 seconds, the 200m in 25.26s and the 300m in 40.20s. In the process, Hercules set a new meet record in the 300m.

His efforts delighted his coach, Ozari Williams, who thinks he is “one for the future”.

“Running six races in two days is no mean achievement and doing so in unfamiliar territory for an 11-year-old is more than commendable,” Williams commented.

Williams was especially delighted in Hercules’ 300m time, noting that it gives “notice” as to how fast he can go, granted he is still a pre-teen.
Meanwhile Tre’on Cato, who represented High Performance, took gold in the Under-9 Boys 80m, blowing away the field in a time of 11:88s. Cato also took silver in the 150m.

Another athlete who showed early signs of his ability was Kyree Gloster, also of High Performance. Gloster ran away with the Under-11 Boys 100m, in a time of 13.60s.

Zichri Hepburn of Mustangs took the Male Open/ International 5000m in a Games record time of 17:12.68.

Also standing on the top of the podium was Keo Davis who won the Under-20 male 100m in 10.23, which turned out to be his personal best.

X- Ceed Sports Club’s Malakye Nero took gold in the Men’s Open 1500m, doing so in a new Games time of 4:18.24.
