Snagg, Morgan and Browne lift National Squash titles

When the last ball dropped at the National Squash Centre, Paul’s Avenue, last Friday, May, 23, 2025 in the men’s title match, it signalled the finale of the 2025 SVG Seniors and Masters National Squash Championships.

Walking off the court as champion was Jules Snagg who continued his dominance.

Snagg was pushed to the limit by the ever- improving Jayden George, but won 11/6, 11/6, 12/10.

They had set up the finals after successfully coming through the elimination phases in contrasting styles.

As number one seed, Snagg had a single match versus Aiden De Freitas in the semi-finals, winning 11/6, 11/6, 11/2; while George saw off Deron Lewis, 11/1, 11/3, 11/1 and Othneil Bailey in the semi-finals, doing so with an 11/5, 5/11, 17/15, 11/7, scoreline.

Bailey went on to claim the third place, ousting De Freitas, 11/5, 11/7, 11/3; and Sebastian Cyrus docked fifth defeating Lewis 11/8, 4/11, 8/11, 8/11, 8/11, 12/10, in the consolation play offs. Cyrus had earlier lost to De Freitas, 4/11, 6/11, 11/2, 11/13.

Preceding the men’s final, Nadira Morgan copped the Women’s title in a straight battle with Ciara George.

Morgan won the close duel, 11/8, 9/11, 11/9, 11/8, as the two slugged it out on the court.

Meanwhile, Raffique Browne entered his name as the new champion in the Masters category.

His sojourn to the accolade, saw him registering four wins and suffering a solitary defeat.

Browne had the better of Mark Cyrus, 11/8, 7/11, 11/6, 11/6, and Keith Boyea, 11/5, 11/4, 11/6. Dominic Ross was also another of Browne’s conquests with a score line of 11/0, 11/0, 11/0, and he defeated Nicholas Boyea, 11/5, 11/7, 11/5.

Browne though could not stave off Anthony De Freitas, going under 11/6, 8/11, 11/6, 6/11, 11/13, in an epic energy sapping encounter as they left everything on the court.

De Freitas finished third behind Mark Cyrus, with Nicholas Boyea, fourth; Dominic Ross, fifth; and Keith Boyea, sixth.

The championships ran from May 19 to 25.
