Kai Marks-Dasent completes 42-mile Union Island sail

Last Saturday, May, 24, 2025, 14-year-old sailor, Kai Marks Dasent, completed another solo sail, this time from mainland St. Vincent to Union Island.

The sail covered 38.1 nautical miles or 42.8 mile, which he completed in six hours and 3 minutes, at an average speed of 6.3 knots.

However, the voyage had a greater cause as Kai set out to raise funds for students of the Union Island Secondary School who were affected in July, 2024 by Hurricane Beryl, helping them pay for their CSEC exams.

Additionally, Marks-Dasent is also raising funds to support his sailing club, Vincy Sailing, to help defray costs related to competing in the Caribbean Dinghy Championships.

In preparation for last Saturday’s sail to Union Island, Marks- Dasent had completed a practice sail to Mustique the previous Saturday.
