Vincentian Sports Academy students recognized

The six Vincentians who were part of the first intake of The University of the West Indies Global Campus Academy of Sports have been recognized for their accomplishment.

The six are Kelisha Ashton-Yorke and Shanique De Shong, who attained a BSc in Sport Leader and Management; Tesseca Cupid and Travis Forbes-BSc in Sport Kinetics; along with Godfrey Harry and Samantha Lynch- BSc in Sport Coaching.

Their moment of recognition came on May 14, 2025, at a ceremony held at the Global Campus Building, Murray’s Road.

Four of the six Vincentians received recognition for being exemplary for the duration of the programme.

Lynch was named the top Female Sports Personality; Ashton -Yorke secured the accolade for being the Best Advocate, while Harry received his pips for being the best Male Sports Administrator; and De Shong as the best Female Sports Administrator.

In all, seven special awards were dished out. Seventeen students from across the Caribbean region were part of the inaugural Academy of Sports Programme.

Vincentian, Keith Joseph, in his capacity as President of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC), who addressed the recognition ceremony virtually, lauded the efforts of the graduates.

“I readily join with [those] gathered in applauding you in taking the bold and ambitious step towards personal development. We thank you for recognizing the important role sport plays in the lives of the peoples of the Caribbean,” Joseph told the graduates while congratulating them in taking the step they did.
