Squash Masters play double – second in Barbados Tourney

OTHNEIL BAILEY placed second in the Men’s 35-44 age group, and Andre John had the same placing in the Men’s 55- 64 category in the recently held 2025 BCQS Barbados Squash Masters Tournament.

Played at the Barbados Squash Club, from May 13 to 18, the Vincentian pair moved through the tournament with singular focus, but lost in their respective finals.

Bailey defeated Canadian, Ross Kircher, 11/7, 11/7, 11/ 2; and Patrick Downie of Barbados, 11/4, 11/4, 11/2, in the group stage.

In his semi-final match versus Steven Miller of Barbados, Bailey continued his unblemished course, overcoming Downie 11/1, 11/7, 11/6.

The final though was Bailey’s acid- test, but he was unable to overcome Barbados’ Rhett Cumberbatch, with the scores being 11/8, 11/9, 9/11, 11/8. Bailey also placed second in the same age group in 2024.

John also breezed through the qualification phases in his quest for a top position. He first had an 11/6, 11/3, 11/5 win over Neil Saunderson of England, before side stepping Jason Small of Barbados, 11/9, 11/8, 11/7, to earn a semi-final spot.

Squaring off with Trinidadian, Colin Mowser in the semi-final, John trumped 11/8, 11/3, 11/6.

However, Mark Sealey got the better of John who lost 8/11, 3/11, 2/11 in the title match.
