North Leeward Predators grab Premiership title, pocket $30,000
It was unbridled joy from the North Leeward Predators FC players, management, staff and supporters last Sunday night, May 11, 2025, at the Brighton Playing Field, after the club lifted the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation’s Premier Division 2024/ 2025 title.
Needing to avoid defeat from Sion Hill, Predators went better by downing their opponents, 5-1.
After Sion Hill missed a penalty within the opening minutes, Predators responded with a penalty from Diel Spring in the 21st minute.
Sion Hill, though, restored parity with a goal from Jahiem Bailey two minutes later. But Spring headed his team into the ascendancy in the 27th minute.
Thereafter, it was the Predators’ show, as Koby Mingot netted in the 38th minute, and Gideon Richards in injury time to establish a 4-1 lead at the end of the first half.
Second half substitute, Keshorn Durham added his team’s fifth goal in the 81st minute, ensuring that Predators completes their 18 matches on 41 points.
More so, the North Leeward team earned themselves a $30,000 payday, and the club’s maiden lien on the Premiership National Football title.
Head Coach, John Williams later said that the title means a lot.
“North Leeward Predators has been trying to become champions of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation’s Premier League for four years now; finally we have become champions. This is the first time that a team from North Leeward- known for other sporting disciplines outside of Football, we are finally able to cross the hurdle.”
Buoyed by the success of his charges, Williams expresses optimism about defending their title in the next edition of the National Club Championships.
“[Winning this title]- it is now going to help us open the flood gates for future players[because] we finally know how it feels to be champion and how championships feel; we are going to be ready to defend and retain our title,” a confident Williams projected.
While Predators went into celebratory mode, the previous leaders up to round 16, On Trac Hope International remained stuck on 37 points, having been defeated in the last two matches.
Hope International was beaten 3-1 by Avenues, and 2-1 by Awesome in their final encounter last Sunday night which capped the double header.
Thus, Hope International had to settle for second place and $24,000.
Docking third was Layou FC, on 32 points, assuring the club received an $18,000 cheque.
The remaining positions will be determined this Saturday, May 17, 2025 when two matches are set for play at the Brighton Playing Field.
The matches will feature Sion Hill versus Campdonia- Chelsea, and SV United against Avenues.
A key factor in the final placings will rest with the outcome of a protest brought by SV United against dethroned 2022-2023 winners- Je Belle.
