Player returns gold for SVG in America’s Chess Festival
VEDANT SHETTY, representing St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), picked up the gold medal in the just concluded XIX Central America & Caribbean Youth Chess Festival 2024.
The tournament took place in Honduras and Shetty was the lone player representing St Vincent and the Grenadines, a release from the Federation states.
He competed in the under 8 category and swept aside all his opponents to secure gold.
Shetty came up against players from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Dominica, Bahamas and Nicaragua, among others. There were 22 players registered in his age category, and he was seeded at 21.
This is the first medal that St Vincent and the Grenadines is securing at the CAC Festival in this the 19th year of the championships.
The next major chess event will take place in Budapest, Hungary, and St Vincent and the Grenadines will again create history when it sends a full female team to take part in the FIDE 45th Chess Olympiad.
