Rose Place defeat Vermont in South Leeward Football Final

Rose Place left the Camden Park Playing Field last Saturday, June 22, 2024, with $2000; the winning trophy; four individual awards; as well as bragging rights.

Their bounty came after they champed Vermont in the Hairoun South Leeward Inter Village Football Competition.

Rose Place had to do it the hard way having to rely on penalty kicks to finally celebrate their 6-5 victory.

They are not new to that type of outcome. Rose Place won the Knock Out title of the competition via penalties in 2022, but lost by the same route last year in the league final.

With the ghost of 2023 behind them, Rose Place won 6-5 in the kicks, after the two finalists were locked 0-0 in regulation time.

Other than Rose Place’s cash and trophy, National Under-20 Goalkeeper, Triston Williams was the Player of the Final and the competition’s Best Goal keeper.

Mesach Pierre, the Best Defender in 2023, held firm in 2024, as he was pivotal in Rose Place’s success.

At the other end, Hosni Chandler, making a comeback to active Football after a health scare, was the top goal scorer with six goals.

The other individual awards went to Imani Miller of Plan- the Best Midfielder; Kelisha Bowens, also of Plan- the Best Female Player; and Largo Height’s Meia Wilson- the Most Improved Female Player.

For placing second, Vermont received a trophy and $1,000. Largo Height trounced Plan 1-0, in Saturday’s first match to earn the third-place cash prize of $ 800 and a trophy.

The competition saw 13 villages in the fray.
