Vincy Heat gets good fillip before Suriname sojourn
Vincy Heat punched in a second win on the trot, when last Sunday May 26, 2024, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Men’s Football outfit, handed Grenada’s Spice Boyz, a commanding 3-0 defeat at the Lauriston Mini Stadium, Carriacou.
The goals for the Vincentians came from Oryan Velox #7, with the second scored by #14 Kobe Maingot, who was tasting his first outing with the team.
Adding the third was Garret Leigertwood, who wore the number 21 jersey.
Sunday’s win, as well as the May 5, 2024 triumph over Dominica here at the Victoria Park, when SVG won the second of two international friendlies, 2-0, is a good fillip going into the Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers, starting June 5, 2024.
Expressing that view was assistant coach, Alnif Williams, who spoke to SEARCHLIGHT, following the match.
“ We are happy for the win to add to the win in the second match against Dominica…We are getting there in terms of our process…
“There were moments within the game that we need to address defensively and some in attack…this match versus Grenada gave us more time to see the players,” Williams commented, noting that the three international friendlies were played within the month. He said they were welcomed, given that there has been no national competition for the better part of a year.
“We are appreciative for the friendlies…We got a clearer picture in terms of structure and the team gelling together as we prepare to go to Suriname for the World Cup Qualifiers.”
St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Vincy Heat is stashed in Group F of the qualifiers. They meet Suriname on June 5, 2024, at the Dr. IR Franklin Essed Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname.
The Vincentians will remain there for their home fixture, which cannot be hosted in St Vincent and the Grenadines because of the use of the Arnos Vale One Playing Field for the ICC Men’s T/20 World Cup.
As such, Vincy Heat will play El Salvador, June 9, 2024, also at the Dr. IR Franklin Essed Stadium.
The Concacaf World Cup resumes in June 2025, with St Vincent and the Grenadines having Anguilla and Puerto as their next opponents.
