Shafiqua Maloney lowers national 400m record
AFTER BREAKING Kineke Alexander’s ten year old 400m record on April 19, 2024, lowering it from 51.32 to 50.94s, Shafiqua Maloney has shaved off more hundredths of a second to reset the St Vincent and the Grenadines Women’s mark in the one lap event.
Maloney, who has been in prime form since the start of the year, clocked 50.75s at the Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, USA, last Friday, May 3, 2024.
Among the other records Maloney has re-established for 2024, are the 600m, 800m and 1500m.
At the John Mc Donnell Invitational at Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA on April 19,2024, Maloney bettered the 1500m mark of 4:14.60, breaking her own record of 4:15.30 , achieved on April 13, 2024, at the Tom Jones Invitational, staged in Gainsville, Florida.
On April 13, Maloney had first broken Bigna Samuel’s 30-year-old record of 4:20.78.
Before that, on April 6, this year, Maloney established a national record in the 600m at the Miramar Invitational, clocking 1:23.80.
On February 10, 2024, Maloney ran her way to establishing a new national record of 1:58.69 at the Tyson Invitational, thus gaining qualification for this year’s Olympics.
As well, she has earned a place at the Summer Olympics in France because of her times in the 400m.
To the good, she has won all her 800m races, both indoors and outdoors, for 2024.
