Maloney scores double wins at US Meet
Vincentian, Shafiqua Maloney, scored double wins last weekend, April 12 and 13, 2024, at the Tom Jones Memorial, hosted at the James G Pressly Stadium, Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Florida, USA.
Maloney won the women’s 1500m in 4:15.30, and the 800m in 1:59.97.
Running her first 1500m as a senior athlete, Maloney’s time eclipsed Bigna Samuel’s record of 4:20.78, which set in 1994.
The 25- year-old Maloney, who is bound for the Paris Olympics in France in July/ August, now has several national records to her name.
She is the St Vincent and the Grenadines 800m record holder, both indoor and outdoor; the 1500m; the 600m; as well as dual records in the 4 x 400m.
The latter record in the 4 x400m, of 3:48.24, is the all time St Vincent and the Grenadines best time, as well as the best mark at the Under-20 females age category.
