SVG end Windwards Under-19 Cricket Champions in cellar position

St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), came up win-less in their six games of the 2024 Windward Islands/Winlott Under-19 Super- 50 Cricket Championships which concluded in Dominica on Sunday, April 14.

In their opening fixture played on Sunday, April 7, 2024, SVG lost to Dominica by 96 runs at Benjamin Park.

Dominica posted 209 all out. Lluvio Charles led with 42.

The pick of the Vincentian bowlers was Kirtney Franklyn, who scalped 3/33. Devonte Mc Dowall had 2/22; Watson Seaton, 2/22; and Solomon Bascombe, 2/51.

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ reply was 113 from 22.2 overs. Jawayne Adams’ 22 was the team’s top score, as Kester Lestrade bagged 5/17 and Earsinho Fontaine took 2/23.

Facing defending champions, St Lucia at Geneva Playing Field the following day, April 8, the Vincentians were beaten by eight wickets.

Sent in to bat, St Vincent and the Grenadines fell for 150 in 39.2 overs. Kodi Grant led with 29.

Bowling for St Lucia, Aaron Joseph took 3/21 and captain, Tarrique Edward, 3/41.

In response, St Lucia made 151 for 2 from 36.4 overs. Theo Edward, 65 not out, and Stephen Abraham, 63 not out shared an unbeaten 138 run stand for the third wicket.

Taking on Grenada on April 10 at Benjamin Park, the tale was similar, as St Vincent and the Grenadines lost by 53 runs.

Grenada made 241 all out from 49.3 overs. Kirt Murray, 69 and Kirsten Murray, 36.

Bowling for St Vincent and the Grenadines, Watson Seaton had 4/24 and Kirtney Franklyn 4/54.

In response, St Vincent and the Grenadines were dismissed for 188. Kodi Grant struck 36.

Clevon Bartholomew, 3/45; Devin Tyson, 3/51; and Kirt Murray, 2/17.

In the second round, St Vincent and the Grenadines lost to Dominica by seven wickets at Benjamin’s Park on April 11.

Joe Williams, 32;  Kodi Grant, 21; and Kirtney Franklyn, 16, were the only  double figure scorers as SVG were bundled out for 99 in 22.4 overs. Jahson Vidal took 4/25 and Jelani Joseph, 3/16 bowling for Dominica.

In reply, Dominica made 100 off 22.4 overs, losing three wickets in the process.

Playing in their penultimate match versus St Lucia on April 13, St Vincent and the Grenadines lost by 41 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method after a rain interruption at Benjamin’s Park.

St Lucia posted 201 all out. Tarique Edward, 58; and Kervin Gassie, 50.

Bowling for SVG Franklyn took 3/43; Mc Dowall, 2/13; Seaton 2/21; and Bascombe, 2/29.

Promoted to open Franklyn struck 59 to lead SVG’s response of 156 all out from 39.1 overs.

This after being 84/1 in the 14th over.

The target was readjusted to 198 from 48 overs. Lee John took 4/31 and Tarrique Edward 3/28.

And, in their final match versus Grenada on April 14, St Vincent and the Grenadines went down by six wickets. SVG were dismissed for 91 in 28.1 overs.

Kirsten Murray picked up 3/6 and Enoch Toussaint had 2/24.

Grenada replied with 93 for 4 from just 12 overs. Divonie Joseph made 38. Kevin Joseph took 2/9, bowling for St Vincent and the Grenadines.

While St Vincent and the Grenadines lost all six matches, Grenada did the opposite, winning all six thereby coming away with the Windward Islands/Winlott Under-19 Super- 50 Cricket title.
