Despite four finals SVG athletes fail to medal at Carifta Games

St Vincent and the Grenadines failed to secure a medal despite competing in three finals on Monday April 1, 2024, on the third and final day of action in the 2024 Carifta Games in St. George’s, Grenada.

At 5:55 p.m., Keo Davis was one of eight finalists in the Boys Under-20 200-metres finals. He secured fourth place in a time of 21.10 seconds; while Zichri Hepburn and Henreek-K Francois featured in the Boys’ Under-20 5,000-metres finals which blew off at 6:35 p.m. Francois crossed the finish line in 17 minutes 21.48 seconds, but Hepburn failed to finish, collapsing with about five laps to go.

In the Girls Under-17 Discus finals, with a throw of 28.89 metres, Toccara Barbour finished seventh.

In an anti-climax of the Boys Under-20 4X400-metres relay finals on Monday evening which required two timed races, the quartet of J’mar Saunders, Matthew Robinson, AJ Delplesche, and Devonric Mac finished fifth in a time of 3 minutes 16.93 seconds.

Earlier on Sunday night, in the Boys’ Under-20 4×100-metre relay, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines quartet of Timothy Williams, Keo Davis, J’mar Saunders, and AJ Delpesche ran 41.29 seconds to take fifth place, rewriting the national 4X100-metres relay record, erasing the old time of 41.60 seconds.

The two debutants of Christian Joseph and Jahda Greaves achieved ninth and tenth place in the Under-17 boys shot-putt finals, with throws of 11.43 and 9.22 metres, respectively; while Shykeina Francis placed fifth in the Under-17 Girls 200-metres semi-final heats with a time of 25.26 seconds.

Jeremy Martin and Damari Roberts who also debuted at the 2024 Carifta Games, placed eleventh and twelfth in the Under-17 Boys triple jump, achieving personal best of 12.36 metres and 12.23 metres respectively.

Also making their debut at the 2024 Carifta Games were Matthew Robinson and Jahieme Williams in the Boys Open Octathlon. Matthew placed eleventh with 4536 points, while Jahieme followed closely in thirteenth place with 4389 points.
