Roy De Freitas claims Squash Masters title

Roy De Freitas was the last man standing when the St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association hosted the 2024 BMC Masters Tournament, from March 19-22 at the National Squash Centre, Paul’s Avenue.

Facing Paul Cyrus in last Friday’s final, De Freitas finished the contest in the ascendancy, trumping 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9.

De Freitas thus replaced Andre John, who won last year’s event, but the US- based player was unable to defend his crown.

De Freitas finished the tournament unbeaten. Before Friday, he had registered 3-0 wins over Nicholas Boyea, Keith Boyea, Dominic Ross and Loron Thomas.

Nicholas Boyea docked third, followed by Keith Boyea, Ross, and Thomas, in that order.

The BMC Masters, which started in 2023, aims to become a staple on the calendar of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association (SVGSA).

President, Amber Glasgow, expressed satisfaction with the growth of the tournament and is hopeful that the 2025 edition will attract more masters.
