Country Roots One trumps SVGCC Invitational Volleyball title

The dominance of the Country Roots clan was evident on Friday March 8, 2024 when they took top honours and third place at their first showing of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College’ Invitational Volleyball Competition.

Country Roots One continued their unbeaten run dethroning Associates Combined, dismissing them 25-16, 25-19, 25-22 in the title match played at the Villa Campus court.

Before them, Country Roots Two outdid Sports Science Smashers 3-1 (25-12, 11-25, 25-16, 25-21).

At the awards ceremony that followed the third place and final, Deshawn Alexander of Country Roots One, was named the best offensive player and MVP of the competition.

Joining him was Jhaeden Daniel- Francis of Division of Arts Science and General Studies (DASGS) Diggers, who was adjudged the best defensive player.

There were MVP awards for the semifinals, final and third place play off.

Antonio Jack was the MVP of semifinal one; Damari Fredericks, semifinal two; Jason Debique , third place play off and Jamion John, the final.

The most improved players awards went to Jhaeden Daniel- Francis of DASGS Diggers; Jomoro

Alleyne, DASGS Tippers; Klyvert Browne, Sports Science Smashers; Anneisha Williams, Division of Teacher Education; Ziel Cain got the accolade for Associates Combined; St Elmore Williams for Country Roots Two; and Wilson Horne, Country Roots One.

Meanwhile, the MVPs of each team were: Deshawn Alexander- Country Roots One; Dawson Hoye-Associates Combined; Antonio Jack- Country Roots Two; Jhaeden Daniel- Francis- Division of Arts Science and General Studies (DASGS) Diggers; Brianna Arthur – DASGS Tippers; Roneika Gibson- Sports Sciences Smashers; and Kevron Abraham- Division of Teacher Education.

The competition was dubbed “ Spike Off 24”.
