Vincentian helps Catawba win Basketball title

Vincentian, Shad Thomas played a pivotal role last Friday night, March 8, to help Catawba Valley Community College win the 2024 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Basketball title at the Rock Hill Sports and Event Centre, South Carolina, USA.

It was Thomas’ decisive free throws that enabled Catawba to win their second successive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, beating Lincoln Memorial 61-60 in the final.

Match reports show that Lincoln Memorial was in the lead 60-59 in overtime, but Thomas scored the two free throws leaving 1.04 minutes on the clock.

However, it was a nervy end to the match, as Lincoln Memorial missed their final shot close to the buzzer.

Thomas, 22, was born in Union Island and before migrating to the USA in 2019, attended the Union Island Secondary School.

This after attaining a Basketball scholarship to attend the Salem Baptist Christian School in North Carolina.

He thus became the first recipient of a scholarship award from the BlueChip Basketball Academy, founded by Vincentian, Kishon Bishop.
